It’s always a great day when you can spend it in Estes Park! The mountains are always a gorgeous backdrop to every Colorado mountain wedding. It’s kinda required and looks amazing! Jen and Tyler visited Colorado and just like when they first saw each other,

I first met Katie at Highlands Cork & Coffee for our consult, and I have to admit I was a bit nervous when she showed up with her huuuge binder full of wedding notes and clippings and I showed up with my 4 year old

Engagement Sessions | Colorado Outdoor Wedding Photographer

Ahh engagement sessions, how I love thee! Seriously, engagement sessions are so much fun and I love being able to spend this time with my couples so that we can get to know each other before their big day! So why are these sessions so important to me? Well…. Think about engagement sessions as our “First Date”. Before you said yes to marry him, you said yes to go out with him, right? Yeah maybe you saw him across the room at your best friends party or maybe while out at a softball game, but you didn’t really KNOW him. He looked good, had a great smile and well, those eyes are pretty dreamy! Maybe his laugh caught your attention. Whatever it is, you initial impression was, I like this guy, I want to know more about him! So what was the next step? A DATE!

Dates are like… little snippets of opportunities that allow us to figure each other out, our likes and dislikes, does he hold his fork like a toddler when scooping up his mashed potatoes, does she snort a little when she laughs out loud ( I totally do!) . What are the things we can learn about each other that we fall in love with, or think, hmmm could definitely use some work!

For me, an engagement session is not only a chance for you two to get some amazing professional photos together, laughing and frolicking in the city or romping around in the mountains. It’s also our first date so we can learn more about each other. You’ve already decided I’m the photographer for you, but now we need to learn more about each other so that on your wedding day we are prepared and READY to rock!  Some couples are very photogenic and are complete naturals, I’m not lying, I don’t have to say a word and they just naturally fall into each other, gracefully of course! Other couples may need a little help warming up in front of the camera, but once they get comfortable, watch out! And then there are my sweet, sweet couples that are like little dear in headlights and need more time and coaching, which is fine and once we discover what works for each couple it makes your wedding day photography a piece of pie! Everybody loves pie, right?!

So because I love, love, love engagement sessions and this time together with my couples without the stress of wedding planning or the chaos that does come with the day of your wedding, I feel it is invaluable and always make this available in all of my wedding packages. You’re of course never obligated to book your session, but I definitely encourage you to do so or to schedule a time for us to go get a drink and play some foosball! (Please tell me you’re thinking of Happy Gilmore right now!)

So, what do you say? Will you go out on a date with me?  :)
